TRB Webinar: Open Graded Pavements: A Primer with Emphasis on Water Quality Benefits

Date: Thursday, September 19, 2019
Time: 2:00-3:30 p.m. EDT
Location: Virtual

Pavement designers are invited to a TRB webinar on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET. This webinar will describe open graded pavement designs for highways, including Permeable Friction Course (PFC) overlays. These overlays are thin-lift open-graded pavement sections placed over a conventional highway pavement section that are used to reduce noise, enhance traction during wet weather, and improve visibility. PFCs also have the potential to improve runoff water quality from highways. Presenters will review the properties of PFC that may help improve runoff water quality and review studies about water quality improvement from PFC overlays. They will also demonstrate how PFC may provide effective water mitigation in stormwater programs.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committees on Asphalt Binders and Stormwater.
